Celebrating Four Years at The Old Bell Hotel
Stewards of History, Custodians of Charm
On 1st April 2021, Texans Kim and Whit Hanks stepped through the ancient doors of The Old Bell Hotel in Malmesbury and began a new chapter in the story of England’s oldest hotel—one that was deeply personal. Whit’s ancestral roots trace back to Malmesbury, making this more than just a business venture; it was a homecoming. As we prepare to celebrate our fourth anniversary, we reflect with gratitude, excitement, and no small amount of pride on how far we’ve come—and where our story will take us next.
Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future
As stewards of history, Kim and Whit took on the responsibility of preserving the soul of this Grade I listed building while reimagining it for a new era of luxury hospitality. Working in close collaboration with interior designer Charlotte Smiley, they embarked on a journey to refresh and restore the hotel as a vibrant celebration of heritage and whimsy.
From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re met with a kaleidoscope of character: hand-picked antiques, vibrant wallpapers, original stonework, and the kind of design touches that whisper stories from centuries past—while surprising you at every turn. Each of our 34 bedrooms is a world of its own: a modern, stylish sanctuary nestled within a piece of living history.
