The latest colourful creation from Phillip Kingsbury, who grew up in Malmesbury, was shown to the public for the first time at The Old Bell Hotel on Wednesday, January 3. Guests, including town mayor Gavin Grant, enjoyed a glass of bubbly while admiring the artwork.

Shortly after we checked in and freshened up in our room, we relaxed in one of their lounges with welcome glasses of prosecco before being treated to their quintessentially British afternoon tea experience. We enjoyed a generous selection of breads and spreads, as well as a mouthwatering variety of sweet and savoury delights, alongside some freshly baked buttermilk scones served with clotted cream & homemade seasonal jam.

The coveted accolades from the AA come hot on the heels after The Old Bell was named Muddy Stiletto’s Best Hotel in the UK, firmly placing the venue on the map as one of the UK’s top destinations for staycations and dining.

Set in the chocolate box borough of Malmesbury, Wiltshire, The Old Bell Hotel first opened its doors over 800 years ago, in 1220. These days however, expect to be delighted by its spectacularly unique and stylish interiors following its top-to-toe refurbishment in 2021 by its owners Kim Hanks and her husband, renowned antiques dealer and collector, Whit Hanks. The hotel boasts 34 exquisite bedrooms, each individually designed and furnished with colourful wallcoverings as well as two stunning bar concepts – the 1220 bar and the fabulous, terraced aviary-like Tyger Bar.

The on-site fine dining restaurant, Abbey Row, is headed up by their ever-talented and multi-award-winning Executive Chef, Leigh Evans. With hyper-seasonal and local ingredients being his biggest inspiration, Leigh has the privilege of working directly with The Old Bell Hotel's gardeners who grow much of the kitchen's produce from their stunning kitchen garden at Abbey House Manor.

Hotel Owner: The Old Bell Hotel appoints new executive chef

The Old Bell Hotel has appointed Leigh Evans as executive chef to take charge of its newly refurbished and renamed fine dining restaurant, Abbey Row. Having grown up in his family-run pub in Somerset, he joins The Old Bell Hotel after having successfully worked in kitchens as a professional chef since the age of 16.He worked at “celebrated” restaurants across the South West, including four years at the Royal Crescent Bath. Following that, he moved to The Chequers, where he won two AA Rosettes and Gastropub of the Year.
